Artists with disabilities across Westmeath have been invited to apply for a grant to progress their work, it was revealed this week.

The Rehab Group has recently announced details of its new Visual and Performing Arts Fund, which is open to people in Mayo, and will provide €150,000 over the next five years to promote careers in the arts for people with disabilities and people with mental health difficulties.

Everybody needs good neighbours and broadcaster Ryan Tubridy and Eileen Colgan, who plays Esther Roche in Fair City’s Carrigstown, Ireland’s most famous fictional neighbourhood, have just launched the Neighbour of the Year award, as part of the 2012 People of the Year Awards, organised by Rehab.

It’s the last chance to nominate deserving members of the public for this year’s People of the Year Awards.

The organisers of the National People of the Year Competition have put out the call to find out who will be the 2012 winner. If you know someone who has done something extraordinary, who has made a real difference, who has gone above and beyond the call of duty and whom you feel deserves a People of the Year Award, then nominate them now. In addition, there are also specific categories for Young Person of the Year, International Person of the Year, Sports Person of the Year and Community Group of the Year.
