Gardaí in Mayo are today continuing to investigate a spate serious crimes which occurred during the week — including an attempted armed robbery from a filling station in Claremorris, an aggravated burglary from a house in Killasser, and a stabbing in Castlebar.

A man who escaped from custody in Roscommon Courthouse on Tuesday, and drove away in his car with a garda on the bonnet, before driving through a funeral, a level crossing, and eventually the wrong way up the motorway in Athlone before being apprehended, will appear in Harristown District Court in Castlerea today (July 22).

Two Latvians who between them went on a thieving spree in Roscommon, Galway, and Mayo, were before Ballina District Court on Tuesday following a break-in to a hairdresser’s in Ballina last month.
