Ray Gavin’s Westmeath minor side produced another inspired performance to see off the considerable challenge of neighbouring Offaly last Saturday. They have now claimed the scalps of Carlow, Laois, and Offaly (and were unlucky to lose out to Kilkenny by two points) and find themselves only one hour away from a first ever Leinster final appearance.

Big weekend in store for Westmeath hurling

This weekend is one of vital importance for all involved in Westmeath hurling, with both the seniors and minors in championship action. On Saturday evening at 7pm our highly rated minor team take on neighbours Offaly in Tullamore in the Leinster quarter-final. On Sunday all attention will be focused on Dr Cullen Park where the seniors face Carlow in a difficult opening game.

Westmeath’s hugely talented minor hurling team came agonisingly close to causing what would have been a seismic and historic upset before ultimately losing out by two points to hot favourites Kilkenny in Cusack Park last Saturday.
