Two of the top Irish musicians of their generation, violinist Elizabeth Cooney and pianist Finghin Collins, are to give a special recital in Holy Trinity Church, Westport, at 8pm this Sunday July 19.  

CLASSICAL MUSIC concerts have always formed part of the Galway International Arts Festival, but this year, classical music has a notably larger, more prominent, placing. Indeed it is almost a mini-festival within the GIAF itself. World famous conductor and organist, Mark Duley, is to perform in St Patrick’s Parish Church, Newport, with his choir Collegium on this Sunday evening (March 29).

Two fantastic nights of music take place this January at Roscommon Arts Centre, kicking off with Maura O’Connell and Karan Casey taking to the stage on January 24. Witness the first collaboration of legendary singers Maura O’Connell and Karan Casey as they are joined by accordionist Martin Tourish and guitarist Ed Boyd this spring. With a Grammy nomination, TG4 Musician of the Year title, BBC Folk Award, and over one million album sales between them, this promises to be an incredible evening with some of the biggest talents in Irish music.

FOR IT’S 34th International Concert Season, Music for Galway will celebrate the cello - an instrument MFG’s artistic director Finghin Collins enthusiastically described as “this fabulously versatile instrument with its extensive range, noble sound, and curvaceous body”.

THE RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra comes to Galway in October, to perform music by Brahms and Richard Strauss, in Leisureland, Salthill.

Wide Open Music and the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra present Tasmin Little with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra on tour in Castlebar on December 5 at 8pm at the Royal Theatre. To coincide with this event Mayo Youth Orchestra have been preparing a programme which they will perform with Tasmin Little in a short pre-concert performance at 7.15pm in the Royal Theatre on the night of the RTÉ NSO concert. Over the last number of weeks musicians from the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and conductor Fergus Sheil have visited Mayo Youth Orchestra to help coach the young players in preparation for the concert. The pre-concert performance is free and all are welcome to attend.
