The St Joseph’s club were well represented in the national multi—events Championships held in Tullamore at the weekend. Athletes from the club took part in seven of the events and while amassing high scores in most they claimed medals in four – one gold, two silver and one bronze. In the under 14 pentathlon Paul Manning scored 2,345 points to win the silver medal.

Saturday, Day three of the All-Ireland Juvenile Track and Field Championships, had a successful outcome for a number of Kilkenny athletes. It had special significance for Sophie Parkinson, Gowran, and Paul Manning, St Joseph’s. Both athletes collected their second gold medal of the championships.

Once again Kilkenny’s juvenile athletes have done themselves and their county proud. There were in excess of thirty first place finishes by Kilkenny athletes at the Under 13 to Under 19 Leinster Track and Field championships held in Tullamore over the weekend.

Joanne Cuddihy continued her return to form with gold and silver performances down under. Competing in the New Zealand track and field championships in Christchurch at the weekend she took first place in the 400m and second in the 200m. Her times were 52.84 and 24.02 respectively.
Clubs unite to conquer cross-country championships

It was a happy bus load of young athletes who returned from Lough Key Forest Park, Roscommon, on Sunday evening. The bus departed with the St Senan’s athletes from Kilmacow shortly after dawn, collecting the Thomastown, Gowran and KCH athletes on the way and linking later with the boys and girls from St Joseph’s.

Athletes with their families and friends, club coaches and officials, gathered at Gowran Park Racecourse on Friday night last. It wasn’t to run or train but to enjoy the cuisine and ambience of the racecourse restaurant while celebrating another very successful year for athletics in the county.

The going was soft in the grounds of Avondale House, Rathdrum, for the Leinster even ages, cross-country championships on Sunday.
Silver for top athletes in cross country championships
There were some outstanding performances by some of the young athletes at the juvenile even age groups cross-country at a wind and rain swept Tramore Racecourse on Sunday. However the Kilkenny athletes made light of the tough hilly and winding course and adverse weather conditions.
