A concert of international standard was performed by a selection of guest musicians and artists at the Patrick Cassidy Summer School Tribute Concert held at the McWilliam Hotel, Claremorris on Friday night last.

This May Bank Holiday weekend, leading Irish composer, Patrick Cassidy, will be in attendance at the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris to host a Summer School for orchestral instrumentalists, music students, singers and composition students as well as choral and musical groups.

As with planned and proposed events nationwide, due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus, Patrick Cassidy’s Cantata, The Children of Lir, due to be performed by Blessington Millennium Choir at Holy Trinity Church, Westport on Saturday 25th April 2020, has been cancelled. The Children of Lir is Patrick’s highly acclaimed traditional musical interpretation of the legend of the Children of Lir, so firmly associated with Mayo.

The Mayo International Choral Festival have announced that the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins and Mrs Sabina Higgins will attend as guests of honour at the Concert For Peace in Knock Basilica on Saturday May 14 which will commemorate the 1916 Rising and World War I. The unprecedented scale of such a concert in this venue will see close to 200 artists perform on the night, all presented by lauded broadcaster, RTÉ Lyric FM’s Liz Nolan. Conductor extraordinaire David Brophy of RTÉ’s award winning High Hopes Choir and instrumental fame brings his impressive experience to proceedings, conducting this special event.

Voted ‘World’s Favourite Orchestra’ in an international poll in 2015, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra is all set for a rare visit to the West, when they perform at Knock Basilica at the Concert For Peace, Saturday May 14, under the baton of renowned conductor extraordinaire David Brophy.

Following her recent haunting and evocative performance during the Centenary concert at Easter, as part of the National 1916 celebrations, the organisers of the Concert For Peace at Knock Basilica were delighted when it was announced just after the concert that Sibeal Ni Chasaide is to be added to the stellar line up of performers on May 14.

This evening (Wednesday Mar 16), from 7pm, 1916 The Rebellion, a major documentary on the seismic events of Easter Week a century ago, narrated by Liam Neeson, will be shown on a outdoor screen at the Galway City Museum, Spanish Arch.
