The Galway footballers continued their preparations for the Connacht semi-final on Sunday week against Mayo in McHale Park with a narrow win over the All-Ireland champions Cork in Ennis at the weekend.

Galway can have absolutely no complaints after their one-point defeat last Saturday evening to a vibrant, fit, and tremendously committed Sligo outfit.

The Galway footballers will head up the N17 next Saturday to Markievicz Park (6pm kick-off) knowing that only a big improvement all around the field will see them getting to a Connacht final date with Roscommon on July 18.

Galway are fancied by most of the national media and pundits to defeat Sligo this Sunday in Pearse Stadium (2pm) and go on and win the Connacht title. However, it is not a sure bet, as Sligo will be coming to Galway full of confidence and belief, expecting victory.

Naomh Anna, Leitir Mór, did their very best on Sunday afternoon at Pearse Park in Longford to try to reach the final of the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship, but it was not to be. They have punched above their weight for most of the season on the road to county and provincial success, but last weekend they came up against a team that was just too good for them. There is no shame in that. And to their credit, they fought like real troopers right to the final whistle as they have done all season.
