Westport town councillors are to attend the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe which will take place on October 30.

Westport Town Councillors have postponed making a decision on whether the middle Mall should be reduced to one lane as part of smarter travel works for the town.

The Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival was launched in McGing's Bar, Westport, on Friday night last, May 17. Cathaoirleach of Westport Town Council, Councillor Ollie Gannon, said that the bank garden in Westport—an 18th century walled garden located behind the former Bank of Ireland building on the Mall—should be bought by the council as it would be a “huge attraction to the local, domestic, and international market” and would be a “shining legacy”.

An application for CCTV for Westport has been forwarded to Garda Headquarters. According to Superintendent Aiden Foley the application has been sent and he hopes to be called to present to the Garda CCTV committee at the next quarterly meeting. However, the superintendent could not give the town’s JPC meeting a date when CCTV would be up and running.

Councillor Myles Staunton made a proposal at the Westport Joint Policing Committee meeting this week that a provision should be put in the Anti-Social policy document which will enable the “immediate expulsion from local authority housing” of anyone who lives in social housing and who allows someone who is involved in anti-social behaviour to stay with them.
