Evenings at McCambridge’s
McCambridge’s is one of my favourite shops. Not a week passes that I do not go in for something special. You can easily put together a wonderful lunch, maybe some grilled artichokes, artisanal cheese, or organic salmon on the freshest of brown bread. An evening meal is just as easily assembled with confit duck legs and something from the salad bar. There are the ever popular sandwiches from the counter to be eaten by the surging waters of the Corrib on a sunny day.
Summer starts at McCambridge's
The Irish Summer. You know when it is coming and you know when it has arrived. It is not the weather that indicates the summertime, that will remain as changeable as ever. The summer season is indicated by strawberries. Not the ever present ones in the shops, but the glorious seasonal Irish ones. I go overboard when they first arrive, bringing home punnets full, far more than we could possibly eat in their limited lifetime. Those not immediately consumued go into cakes, ice-cream, milkshakes, and popsicles.

Last Thursday the Salthill Hotel was a taste for the senses as McCambridge’s on Shop Street celebrated its eighth annual Food and Wine Fair. Proceeds raised on the evening all went to a local charity and national schools. The function room was a myriad of tasty treats, heart warming snacks, award winning artisan produce, sweet delicacies and rich wines from some 40 award winning food and wine producers, many of whome are from the immediate Galway area.

McCambridges brings brown
As the summer heats up, there might be many reasons to visit the beach, but there’s also a new, tasty way to cool down with a visit to Shop Street in Galway, as Murphys Ice Cream has launched a new flavour to celebrate the refurbishment of McCambridge’s. That venerable institution has installed a Murphys ice cream scooping cabinet, with twelve delicious flavours, including McCambridge’s Brown Bread ice cream, in the remodelled, gourmet food store.
