Kylemore Abbey has an exciting line-up for Heritage Week next week, including the unveiling of a new display of the ceremonial parliamentary robes and coronet of the Duke of Manchester, a former owner of the abbey.

Located in the heart of Connemara on the Wild Atlantic Way, Kylemore Abbey was originally built by Mitchell Henry as an ancestral castle in 1867.

Kylemore Abbey has been named “Business of the Year” at the Galway Chamber Business Awards 2022, in association with The Shannon Airport Group. It was recognised for its “immense contribution to employment in Connemara” and for “as a dynamic, sustainable business which continues to innovate and pivot its offering to meet the needs and expectations of its customers.”

Kylemore Abbey is encouraging everyone to get their walking shoes on and come to Kylemore to explore the 1,000-acre estate this Autumn. An extensive programme of walks, talks, and events is being launched this October to offer people of all ages an opportunity to reconnect with nature, history, and loved ones in Kylemore.

With level five lockdown restrictions imposed throughout the country until at least December 1, travel and visiting places of interest has had to be put on hold for the time being.

Conservation work has begun on two key features of the iconic Kylemore Abbey estate in Connemara - the neo-Gothic Church and the Victorian Walled Gardens.

As part of National Heritage Week 2010, which runs from August 21-29 and to mark the ongoing celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the death of Mitchell Henry, Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Walled Gardens will host a variety of events to showcase the history and natural heritage of Kylemore Abbey and Connemara.
