Ballroom of Romance director revisits Ballycroy

Film Mayo was delighted to have internationally renowned film director Pat O’Connor as its special guest for the launch of Film Mayo, which took place before Christmas. Pat has a very special relationship with Mayo since filming The Ballroom of Romance in Ballycroy in the early eighties. He has very fond memories of his time in Mayo, particularly the warmth of the people in Ballycroy. The reason that Pat agreed to be the special guest at the launch of Film Mayo was because of the affection he holds in his heart for Mayo. During his recent visit Pat talked of how shooting in Mayo was a very special time for him and one of the most fulfilling experiences that he has ever had film-making.

Mayo Ideas Week 2012 was officially launched by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, at Mount Falcon Hotel, Ballina, on Monday September 3. Mayo Ideas Week is a series of idea generation, entrepreneurship, and business events hosted by the development and enterprise support agencies in Mayo. Admission is free to the 13 events which will be held all over the county from Monday September 17 to Friday September 21.

Mayo County Council, the Department of Community and Integrated Development and WESTBIC, the Irish partners in the CISNET project are offering an unmissable opportunity for interested craft businesses and artists to attend a free event which is designed to give practical information and inputs for the craft sector locally and regionally. The inaugural Mayo Ideas Week has been judged an outstanding success and shows what can be achieved when enterprise agencies combine their efforts. Up to 450 people attended 10 events over five days in venues throughout the entire county.
