This year saw the sad passing of a wonderfully talented musician from Galway, Martin Murray. Martin started his career as a young lad here in Galway in the Patrician Boys Band & the Galway Youth Orchestra before joining St Patricks Brass Band and also playing with a number of local jazz bands around town including The Moonlight Jazz Band and Black Magic Big Band.

The 17-piece orchestra’s maestro, Martin Murray, received treatment for pancreatic cancer from the Galway and Donegal-based charity in 2023. To show his appreciation, the former cruise ship musical director is now putting on a one-time fundrasier featuring the works of all the jazz greats, from Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Bobby Darin, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller and many more.
