Councillors welcome Clonbrusk watermain works

Local councillors have welcomed the commencement of works to replace the water main at Clonbrusk.

In the past number of years water service to Clonbrusk has been adversely affected, causing great inconvenience to many people in the area.

Fianna Fáil councillor, Aengus O’Rourke, welcomed the works: “I am delighted that work has commenced this week to completely refurbish the water mains network in Clonbrusk West, Coosan,” he said. “I was pleased to secure the commitment and funding necessary to carry out this work which represents an investment in the region of €70,000.

“This work will come as a great relief to the long suffering residents in the area who have endured regular water bursts, road works and water outages over the past number of years. Rehabilitation of the mains water line in the area can’t come quick enough for the residents.

“The mains line had become fragile and unreliable to the point that residents had lost confidence in the water supply in the area, choosing instead to buy drinking water on a weekly basis.

“I would like to thank director of services Martin Murray of Westmeath County Council for his support in making a strong case to Irish Water for this investment.”

Independent councillor, Ailish Mc Manus, said: “I am delighted that the contractor is on site and works are commencing at long last. This community is entitled to certainty in supply and quality, and I look forward to seeing that being delivered to the Clonbrusk community who have had to endure such prolonged disruption over the last number of years.”

It is estimated that the works will be completed in three to four weeks.
