Local man Liam McDwyer had dreamed of reaching Everest Base Camp since he was a young boy and read a book about the Himalayas. Over forty years later, and with encouragement from his wife, he decided that 2022 was the year in which he would set about making his dream come true. Now one year later Liam has completed the 130km trek, climbing 5,364m in the process, and has added a big tick against his “reach Mt. Everest Base Camp” bucket list box.

Upon arrival we were greeted and seated by assistant restaurant manager Joseph, who is equal parts charming and informative.

Acclaimed women-led production of Famine musical coming to the Town Hall Theatre
The acclaimed new contemporary folk musical ‘In the Midst of Plenty’ will tour to the Town Hall Theatre on June 7 and 8 as part of Roscommon-based Enchanted Croí Theatre’s Irish tour. The work of a women-led creative team, the piece amplifies the seldom-told stories of impoverished women and the choices they made as they fought to survive 19th-century cottier life.
Irish Kidney Association pay tribute to founder member Angeline Cooke
The Board, Officers and Members of the Irish Kidney Association were deeply saddened to hear the news of the sudden passing of Angeline Cooke, from Maunsells Road, Galway, last week and they have extended their deepest sympathies to her family and friends. A founding member of the Association, Angeline underwent a kidney transplant in 1996. She enjoyed the successful longevity of this transplant for over 25 years before returning to dialysis treatment. Her gratitude to her deceased kidney donor was immense.
