Irish language record attempt in Castlebar

Comhrá 24/7 will be the longest continuous conversation in the Irish language ever held, running from September 29 to October 6, in a bid to create a conversational world record as part of Bliain na Gaeilge 2013.

MIA Growing Real Opportunities for Women (GROW)

Mayo Intercultural Action has secured further funding to continue its work supporting women to set up their own businesses. For the past two years, MIA has worked with women throughout Mayo providing support, training, mentoring and advice to women in the process of setting up their own enterprises. Following on the success of this, MIA has now been allocated EU funding to continue this invaluable work.

Funding secured for women in business programme

Mayo Intercultural Action has secured further funding to continue its GROW: Women In Business Programme. The GROW programme - Growing Real Opportunities for Women is an EU funded programme run by Mayo Intercultural Action, providing supports for women to set up their own businesses. Over the past two years, women from throughout Mayo have availed of training, mentoring, and advice to support them to develop successful enterprises. Following on the success of this innovative programme to date, MIA has been allocated a further €33,152 to continue the programme until November 2012 and recruitment will now begin for this new phase of GROW.

Mayo Brain Injury Support Group

More than 10,000 people in Ireland acquire a brain injury during an accident, blow to the head, a stroke, or an aneurism annually. A Brain Injury Peer Support Group meets in Castlebar every third Monday in each month.

MIA festive party

Mayo Intercultural Action’s festive season party will take place on December 16 from 7pm to 10pm in the Le Chéile Family Resource Centre, Tucker Street, Castlebar. All welcome.

Fundraiser for the Karen Community

A fundraising event will take place in the Le Chéile Family Resource Centre, Tucker Street, Castlebar, on Saturday December 3 from 3pm to 5pm. It will be held by the Karen Community Castlebar to raise money for Ban Don Yang Refugee Camp in Thailand.

Chess workshops

Chess workshops will take place in the Le Chéile Family Resource Centre, Castlebar, starting on Saturday October 22. The course will run for eight weeks from 5pm to 7pm.
