Three Kilkenny craft makers are among those hand-picked by the Crafts Council of Ireland, to feature in its recently launched “Celebrating Ireland’s Designer Makers” campaign for the month of September.

The monthly tournament, sponsored by Moth to a Flame, took place on Saturday night last. The event was run as a traditional American style tournament, encompassing the use of a handicap system.

The Frostbite doubles finals took place last Friday night with players who had moved up a grade proving that they were well able for higher standards. Pat Brett and Rory McGovern almost caused a shock in section A when they took Trevor Darlington and Robert Cummins to three sets, the final score 6-1, 5-7 and 6-3.

The Hardcourt Singles League, kindly sponsored once again for another year by Honda Motors Kilkenny, came to a satisfactory conclusion on Saturday evening. Thankfully we were spared the inclement conditions of the last few days, so that the finalists could give the excellent new courts a thorough test.

A brochure outlining a variety of events that are taking place over the festive season was launched by the Chamber this week by the Mayor at City Hall along with a local butcher, baker and candlestick maker.
