Three Kilkenny craft makers are among those hand-picked by the Crafts Council of Ireland, to feature in its recently launched “Celebrating Ireland’s Designer Makers” campaign for the month of September.
The campaign, which highlights beautiful craft products “Imagined, Designed and Made in Ireland” and the talented people behind them, focuses on furniture, interiors, fashion and accessories.
It will be promoted in 60 retail outlets around Ireland, in makers’ studios and through a dedicated website www.giveirishcraft.com where consumers can browse gift suggestions and view stockists of Irish craft throughout Ireland.
Kilkenny has three makers involved in the initiative. They are Philip Cushen of Cushendale Woollen Mills in Graiguenamanagh; Larry Kinsella of Moth To A Flame in Bennettsbridge and Kathleen Leadbetter of Jerpoint Glass Studio in Stoneyford.
The Crafts Council of Ireland is committed to giving young designers a voice, to help their remarkable work to be seen and appreciated and bought by consumers in Ireland and overseas.
As part of these activities in promoting Irish craft and design internationally during Year of Craft 2011, the Crafts Council of Ireland also announced that later this month 12 of the country’s top designers will be exhibiting at TENT London, a prestigious, cutting-edge and progressive trade exhibition during the London Design Festival.
TENT, which takes place from September 22 to 25, will feature over 200 international exhibitors showing the very latest in contemporary interior products. For more information, visit www.tentlondon.co.uk
