LÚNASA MAKE a welcome return to Galway and the Galway Sessions festival when the trad supergroup play Monroe's Live on Thursday June 18. A hectic and busy international touring schedule has afforded the band little opportunity to play in Ireland in recent times so this Galway gig is all the more to be welcomed.

THEY HAVE performed more than 1,500 shows across 36 countries since forming in 1997, and their line-up features some of the most respected names in contemporary Irish trad. They are Lúnasa.

THE KING’S HEAD pub will host a series of free concerts of Irish trad next week, each starting at 3pm, as part of the Galway Sessions festival.

IRISH TRAD band Lunasa have rightly been described as a ‘supergroup’ and considering it’s members include Trevor Hutchinson (ex Waterboys), Sean Smyth (Donal Lunny’s Coolfin) and Cillian Vallely (Whirligig, Paddy O’Brien’s Chulrua), it’s a verdict hard to argue with.

The Celtic Festival has kicked off in earnest this week and one of the highlights of this year’s event is the Lunasa concert which is taking place in the Watergate Theatre in Kilkenny tomorrow, Friday night.

FROM THE quirky, clever, songs of Erin McKeown, to the rousing, imaginative Irish trad of Steve Cooney, Campbell’s Tavern, Cloughanover, will be bursting with great music this Halloween.

Described as ‘the hottest Irish acoustic group on the planet’, Lúnasa will perform their final show of the year ahead of going into studio to record tracks for their new album.
