Foxford postman to deliver to refugee camp

A postman based in Foxford whose normal run takes him to the villages of Newtown, Cloghans, and Knockmore will be undertaking a much longer delivery in the near future when he heads to Bulgaria in September this year to deliver aid to a Syrian children’s refugee camp. Brendan Medlar has volunteered to be a driver on the Communications Workers Union convoy to the camp, a 4,000 mile round trip. Mr Medlar who will be driving an An Post truck will meet with the projects partners from Eircom and will travel to the UK, where they will join a further 10 to 12 trucks for the trek across Europe to the camp.

The Knockmore-based councillor informed the monthly meeting of the council on Monday that he had just come from a meeting with An Post in relation to the proposed closure of the post office in the village and it was not good news.
