In addition to the award the promoters of PurOrigin were presented with a €20,000 prize fund after being declared overall winner of University College Dublin’s 17th NovaUCD Campus Company Development Programme.

South Galway still echoes with stories of Antoine O Raifteiri , and 18th century blind poet and fiddle player in the ancient bardic tradition. His best known poems are probably Cill Aodain, and Anach Cuan. He never wrote his poems down, but they were collected by Douglas Hyde, and Lady Gregory, from those whom he taught them to, after his death.

Large crowds expected to arrive in Kiltimagh for Race2Glory

The time has finally arrived and competitors from across the country will flock to Kiltimagh, Co Mayo, on Saturday week July 16 to take part in the inaugural 40km Race2Glory multi-adventure race. Sign on for Race2Glory will take place in The Cill Aodain Court Hotel, on Friday July 15 between 6.30pm and 9pm and again on the Saturday between 9am and 11.30am. It is important that all competitors present themselves at registration as this is where they will receive their race number, map, and a Race2Glory Cooltex T-shirt. The race will commence at 1pm at Kiltimagh GAA Park.

Mayo student fined for serious obstruction of gardaí

A young Mayo student, who claimed he had been attacked and left fearing for his life during a series of blows from Galway gardaí, has succeeded in contesting the assault charge against him; however, he was convicted and fined a total of €800 this week for the serious obstruction of a garda and for being intoxicated and extremely abusive.
