Following Kilkenny’s comprehensive victories over both Offaly and Dublin, the matches keep coming thick and fast. However, they certainly do not come tougher than defending All-Ireland senior champions and National League champions Wexford in Wexford Park on Saturday at 5pm.

It had the potential of a downfall, but Kilkenny were always in control and they safely steered to a 12-point victory over a gallant Offaly as the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship got under way.

There was disappointment for the Kilkenny senior camogie girls as they were caught by a late Galway flurry in Nowlan Park last Sunday as their league hopes were ended. Kilkenny led by four points at the interval —1-6 to 0-5 and a 45th minute goal from Shelley Farrell followed by a close range free by Aoife Neary restored that four point gap.

Nowlan Park is the setting next Sunday afternoon, when the Irish Daily Star National Camogie league semi-finals take place. Kilkenny are first in the arena at 2pm against Galway, followed at 3.45pm by Tipperary’s clash with defending League/All-Ireland champions Wexford.

Last Saturday was a memorable day for Kilkenny schools as Grennan College (Thomastown), Loreto Kilkenny and Castlecomer Community School all recorded All-Ireland victories in Trim Co Meath. The day began with Grennan College landing honours in the Roinn B title defeating St Louis Ballymena 4-9 to 3-3. Grennan playing into the breeze during the opening-half led 3-2 to 2-1 at half-time thanks to goals from Aine Lannon, Niamh Donnelly and Kelly Hamilton.

It was a memorable day for South Kilkenny as Mooncoin, Rower-Inistigoe and Mullinavat all landed league honours. Firstly, a double header of league finals took place in well represented Ballyhale as the St Canice’s Credit Union Junior B and intermediate league finals were down for decision.
