Sun, sand, kites, surf-boards and great tunes are the order of the day when Achill Island plays host to the finale of the Irish Kitesurfing Tour Competition at this year’s Battle for the Lake Music and Kite Festival on September 28 and 29.

The lyrics of “That bonny spot called Keel” should be altered this year to “that Sunny spot called Keel”. On August 31, Keel will claim another adjective. If the Agricultural Show Committee members have their way, busy will be another word to describe the capital of Achill. The committee are currently organising the revival of the old black faced mountain sheep show of the eighties.

Windwise Windsurfing School Achill Island in conjunction with Women of Windsurfing Ireland and the Irish Sports Council is holding a Get Off the Couch weekend on Keel Lake on Saturday and Sunday.
