•Liam Mellows GAA Club, which celebrated its 75th birthday last year, is to launch the next phase of its development at the club grounds at Ballyloughane, Renmore. After securing planning permission last year, the club is now beginning development of a 4.5 acre portion of land, adjacent to the existing pitch at Ballyloughane, to provide an additional playing field. As part of this development, Liam Mellows GAA Club will be constructing a shoreline walkway for public use across the club's facilities. On Sunday (January 25) the club will host an official ceremony at 12 noon to mark the turning of the soil, to be conducted by Seán Duggan, former Galway hurling legend and a long standing member of Liam Mellows. •Club Iomanaíochta & Camogaíochta Bearna/Na Forbacha is having its 11th annual social on Saturday at 8pm in the Connemara Coast Hotel. Tickets are available from Johnny Curran 087-6910905 or Donna Cox 087-6340846. The club will hold its registration of players for 2009 on Sunday February 8 in the Connemara Coast Hotel at 5pm. All underage and adult players are requested to register on the day.
