Mayo County Council announces Tyrone Guthrie regional bursary scheme recipients
Every year Mayo County Council offers two special bursary awards to artists born or living in Mayo, to enable them to spend two weeks at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, County Monaghan. Each bursary covers all board and lodging expenses for a two-week period, plus the use of a studio if relevant. There are a variety of work spaces including studios, a music room for composers and musicians, a multi-media room and a large rehearsal and performance space.
Double Vision at the Custom House Studios
Double Vision is a show of work by past and present students of art and design at GMIT Castlebar. Next is the title of the new exhibition of paintings, prints and more which opened yesterday, August 26, at The Wright Gallery on the Quay in Westport. The show is the latest offering by the Wright Artists collective, a group of locally-based artists comprising Breda Burns, Mags Duffy, Betty Gannon, Pam Gray, Claire Griffin, Mary O’Grady, Gráinne O’Reilly, Susie Quinn, Sinéad Wall and Ian Wieczorek. This vibrant new exhibition is the third in an ongoing series planned for the artist-run gallery, located in Sue Wright’s former craft shop situated directly opposite the Custom House Studios.
New exhibition inspired by Bellacorick power station to open in Belmullet
Bellacorick: Impressions of a Place is the title of a new exhibition of drawing, painting, and photography by Betty Gannon, Michael Gannon, and Ian Wieczorek, on show at Áras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet, from Friday March 5 to Wednesday March 31. The exhibition is the result of authorised visits to the decommissioned power station during 2008 and 2009, and the three Mayo artists have created their own personal visual responses to the iconic building’s structure and former function.
