Local teachers receive ASTI medals
Two former Mayo teachers were rewarded for their services to the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland (ASTI) recently. James Duffy and Antoinette Casey were presented with their awards at a ceremony which took place in the Gresham Hotel, Dublin, on Friday last May 27.

But that is exactly what one Castlebar man did after walking the Inca Trail as a tourist in 2016, Jarlath McHale was so taken by the workload carried out by the porters who lugged everything he and his fellow tourists needed, from food to tents to toilet facilities from stop to stop, along with everything for themselves for the four day trek, that he came up with the idea of becoming the first non-Peruvian to do the trail as a porter and film his journey - from their eyes.
Mayo County Council attends innovative tourism workshop in Dublin
Fifty Irish tourism enterprises, including Mayo County Council, got together at the Gresham Hotel in Dublin, for an innovative workshop organised by Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland. The event – titled “Have you a story to tell?” – explored how tourism businesses around the country could generate more international publicity and social media exposure for themselves, and for Ireland, and ultimately increase overseas tourism business in 2016 and beyond.
