The final road championship races of the season, hosted by the Gowran club, were bathed in brilliant summer weather over a Gowran-Dunbell circuit on Sunday. Liam Kealy drove the lead car and the Kennedy girls manned the water station.

The St Patrick’s Day 5K DASH organised by Kilkenny City Harriers and Kilkenny Fit4Life Club proved to be an enjoyable and very successful event with just over 250 taking to the road and a further 100 plus juveniles on the track. Mayor Malcolm Noonan started the run which commenced at The Watershed and followed a course along the Bennettsbridge Road, a circle of The Castle Park and back to The Watershed.

Langton enjoys triple gold glory in Track and Field Championships

It was all go in the indoor arena in Nenagh on Saturday and Sunday last as juvenile athletes from around Leinster gathered for the provincial Track and Field Championships.

Kilkenny was represented at the Scottish Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Kelvin Hall Glasgow last weekend. Gowran’s Diarmuid Hickey, competing in the under 20 shot had a throw of 10.72 metres.

Gowran have novice champions

Gowran athletes were very much to he fore at the Kilkenny novice championships in Kilmacow on Sunday. In the ladies 3K race it was sisters, Maria and Gretta who were first and second respectively. They set a steady pace from the start and there was never really a doubt but that they would share the first two places. With Lisa Kennedy in fifth place the Gowran club captured the Novice Shield. Sarah Dollard, St Senan’s was third, Elaine O’Reilly, Thomastown was fourth and Tracey Malone, St Joseph’s was sixth.

KCH ladies and Gowran men control the road

The County Kilkenny road championships were held on the Grovine/Waterford road circuit in glorious sunshine on Sunday last.
