News that Athlone Garda Station will not be afforded new recruits to bolster policing numbers in the community is disheartening, local Councillor, Aengus O’Rourke, has claimed.

The refurbishment and enhancement of Athlone Garda Station continues with the aspiration that ongoing works at the building based on the town’s west side will be completed within the two year time frame initially noted for the redevelopment project.

A group of plucky plungers will brave the icy waters of the river Shannon at The Strand in Athlone this Saturday December 13 at 11am for the annual An Garda Síochana Polar Plunge.
