The case against a Knock man who pleaded guilty to his dog’s worrying a neighbour’s cattle on two occasions last summer was adjourned until September by Judge Mary Devins. However she allowed the gardai liberty to re-enter the case on 48-hours notice if another incident occurred between now and then.
One year disqualification for drink driving
A Galway man who pleaded guilty to drink driving was disqualified from driving for one year in Castlebar District Court this week. Garda Peter Sarsfield told the court that he was on duty on May 5 2012 at 7am, when a report of a car going off the road at Streamstown, Claremorris, was phoned into the station. He told the court he went to investigate and stopped a car being driven by Patrick Lawrence, 69 Riverdale, Oranmore, Co Galway, at 7.20am. He administered a road side breath test which Lawrence failed and then arrested him and brought him to Claremorris Garda Station, where Lawrence gave a blood sample which returned a reading of 87mlgs per 100ml of blood.

Kieran Prendergast, 22 Aisling Drive, Ballyhaunis, pleaded guilty to a section six public order offence in court. Garda Peter Sarsfield told the court that at 1.12am on August 8 2008 he found the defendant at the back of the Square, Claremorris, where he was intoxicated and roaring and shouting. When he approached Prendergast the defendent stripped off and took up a boxing pose, after which Garda Sarsfield arrested him.
