A drunk man who stripped off and took up a boxing pose when approached by gardaí was fined €500 at Claremorris District Court (sitting in Kiltimagh ) this week. Kieran Prendergast, 22 Aisling Drive, Ballyhaunis, pleaded guilty to a section six public order offence in court. Garda Peter Sarsfield told the court that at 1.12am on August 8 2008 he found the defendant at the back of the Square, Claremorris, where he was intoxicated and roaring and shouting. When he approached Prendergast the defendent stripped off and took up a boxing pose, after which Garda Sarsfield arrested him.

Evan O’Dwyer solicitor for Prendergast told the court that his client is a 25-year-old unemployed man who suffers from a drink problem. He went on to say he has the promise of some part time work as a roofer and his problems come from as much his circumstance and learned behaviour in his youth and his client has been off the drink since the new year.
