Voluntary organisations in Mayo experiencing problems with security vetting

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has received information relating to the recent Prime Time programme highlighting the standards of some organisations within the home care sector. One of the main problems highlighted in the programme was the absence of Garda vetting for people dealing with the elderly. However, the Mayo-based TD is aware that some voluntary organisations in Mayo are waiting more than two years to avail of access to vetting procedures.

Twelve week delay in vetting process too long – O’Mahony

Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony has been informed by the Minister for Justice and Law Reform, Dermot Ahern, that an additional 10 people have been recruited to the Garda Central Vetting Unit on a temporary basis to deal with the high volume of applications from people seeking vetting clearance that allows them take up employment.

Time delay in Garda vetting questioned

Fine Gael Leader, Enda Kenny, TD, has questioned the Minister for Justice, Dermot Ahern, TD, regarding the number of applications being processed and the length of time being taken for such processing by the Garda Central Vetting Unit.
