In conjunction with Galway City Council, Galway Arts Centre announced the awarding of three art commissions under an innovative new artist-in-residence programme. The programme supports artists in engaging with the communities of Galway City’s Westside and creatively responding to scientific research on air quality and climate conducted by local citizens and climate scientists from the University of Galway.

Tom McLean, a contemporary figurative painter and illustrator who lives and works in Galway City, has won a highly commended prize for his work Note to Self at the National Gallery of Ireland’s Zurich Portrait Prize. Me Ma Healing Me by Salvatore of Lucan was announced as the winning portrait this evening at a virtual ceremony. Vanessa Jones’ portrait Cabbage Baby (Self Portrait) also received a highly commended prize to the sum of €1,500.

GALWAY THEATRE Festival will officially launch its Creative Europe project - Make A Move - on Wednesday March 27 at 4.30pm in the O’Donoghue Centre, NUI Galway.

A Galway-based artist, who was recently honoured by the Irish Chinese community, will exhibit colourful new work at Ireland’s premier art fair Art Source, which will be held at the RDS from November 9-11.
