A Nigerian woman in her twenties, who may be a victim of human trafficking and has remained in garda custody for over two months while her identity is trying to be established, agreed to co-operate with gardaí in furnishing her fingerprints and identifying the house in which she claims she was held against her will.

A “dramatic” change in situation in the case of Edith Orumwenes, who claims to be the victim of human trafficking, was heard in Castlebar District Court on Wednesday, after a Garda investigation may have identified her as a woman who was working under the professional name of “Joy Jolly” in Clonmel during the time she claims that she was held captive in a house in Castlebar.

Judge Mary Devins handed down a four month prison sentence to a Nigerian woman who has been through the court system on a number of occasions since she was first arrested on November 12 last year.
