If Ireland is looking for a demonstration of phenomenal growth and positivity it doesn’t have to look much further than the Twitter group known as #SMEcommunity. On Friday January 27 at 11am, the County Arms Hotel in Birr, Co Offaly is hosting a free, offline event for members of #SMEcommunity. The first of its kind in Ireland, there will be representatives from the 32 counties.

A dynamic group of Irish business people are collectively running an online support group for small business via Twitter. The group has grown from two tweeters three months ago to 750 to date. Such is the success of the Twitter group, aptly named #SMEcommunity, that after having 12 informal meet ups around Ireland, it is now beginning another round.
SME entrepreneurs working together through social media
#SMEcommunity is a group set up on Twitter by SMEs for SMEs, with the aim to support, encourage, help and advise each other through social media. It started with a simple tweet on June 16 between Debbie Harper of Tús Nua Designs and Kehlan Kirwin from FocuSMEIreland. Very quickly other Irish business people joined in and by the end of the evening #SMEcommunity was trending in Ireland.
