A dynamic group of Irish business people are collectively running an online support group for small business via Twitter. The group has grown from two tweeters three months ago to 750 to date. Such is the success of the Twitter group, aptly named #SMEcommunity, that after having 12 informal meet ups around Ireland, it is now beginning another round.
Today (Friday, October 21 ), sees the second meet up for Mayo-based members of the online community. Starting at 11am in Breaffy House Resort in Castlebar, it is an informal gathering and networking event where people can chat and exchange ideas as well as an opportunity to meet other business people.
On the forthcoming Mayo meet up Debbie Harper of Foxford based Tús Nua Designs said: “The growth of the #SMEcommunity has been so phenomenal, it is all about people giving each other hands-on practical help and advice; knowing there are other business people rooting for your success gives a feeling of unity and strength in numbers.”
The group comprises a variety of business people, from artisan food makers to metal prefabricators and everything in between. A recent tweet by business mentor Vincent Byrne sums up what it is all about – “This business journey isn't meant to be a solo effort - getting help is as much a part of it as the good stuff. So ask! #SMEcommunity.”
Everyone is welcome to attend this event whether they are already in business or just thinking about starting one. Although it began online there is no prerequisite to be on Twitter to come along and chat. It is open to all and is free.
