Flood works funding increase

Flood works funding has just been announced for a number of Mayo areas. Funding of €45,000 has been allocated for Dookinelly, Achill Island, for the provision of an outlet open to the sea and for roadside drainage. Other grants approved include €31,500 for works at Derryguillinan, Cloghans, and €52,200 for works on Owenwee River, comprising €27,900 for the drainage of the river, the river weir, and for the provision of fencing, and €24,300 for the repair of a culvert, for road strengthening works, and for fencing.

Flood relief funding for Mayo

Flood relief of €128,700 from the OPW has been allocated to Mayo. The Owenwee River, Westport receives a total of €52,200; Dookinelly, Achill Island, gets €45,000 to provide an open drain to the sea as well as roadside drainage while Derryguillinan, Cloghans gets €31,500 for relief works.

Mullingar’s Springfield Tunnel reopened

The Springfield Tunnel, which had been closed to facilitate the construction of the Mullingar Sewerage Improvement Scheme, was reopened this week in the presence of councillors and members of the local community.

Council to receive flooding funding

Areas affected by the unprecedented flooding last year are to benefit from a series of maintenance and improvement works as the Galway County Council is set to receive nearly €800,000 in funding.
