Ballina Town Council welcomes new monitored CCTV system

There was full throated praise for all those involved in getting the new Garda monitored CCTV system in Ballina finally up and running at the May meeting of the local authority this week. At Tuesday night’s meeting Sgt Mandy Gaynor gave the elected members a full presentation on the system that currently has 18 linked up monitored cameras throughout the town, with four more to come on stream shortly and the possibility to add more later.

Cluid lambasted for lack of progress in Ballina estate

Ballina developers to pay €3,500 in extra development contribution

The elected members of Ballina Town Council narrowly passed a revised supplementary development contribution scheme at their monthly meeting. The revised plan which saw the cost of the contribution cut from €4,500 per residential unit to €3,500 was passed by a vote of five to four in the chamber after a lengthy debate. The proposal to put the item through but with a reduced charge was made by Fianna Fáil councillor Padraig Moore, which was a counter motion to Independent councillor Mary Kelly’s proposal to shelve the item for 12 months and bring it back to the council then.

Ballina councillors question work on disability plan

While welcoming a report on the disability strategic plan for Mayo County Council at their monthly meeting last week, a number of Ballina councillors raised concerns about the work being done outside public buildings in relation to disability issues in the town.

Potholes fill roads discussion at Ballina area meeting

The condition of the roads in the Ballina area after the recent cold spell led to a lengthy discussion at this week’s Ballina electoral area meeting. “The national roads inspector was in the area yesterday (Tuesday), to see the damage that has been caused,” senior engineer for Mayo County Council Noel Burke told the meeting. “We have asked him to allow us to be as flexible as possible with the local road grants that we have applied for. We hope they will let us be discretionary on where we spend the money rather than just rely on the list of priorities we sent up before the cold spell set in.”
