Galway festivals seek volunteers
THE GALWAY International Arts Festival is encouraging people to volunteer with the festival. Volunteer co-ordinators Sheila Quinn and Cian McCarthy will do their utmost to match people’s preferences with their available time. Once people have joined up, the festival will have an informal 10-minute interview and an induction evening before starting. Volunteers will be able to work as Festival Ambassadors; invigilators in the Festival galleries; stewards in the Big Top, as part of on the street teams, etc.
Top Cat Hogan secures win over Rebels
Richie Hogan was the star of the show for Kilkenny in their close win over Cork 0-14 to 1-10 in their Allianz Hurling League Division 1 clash on Sunday last in Nowlan Park. Kilkenny were more dominant in the first half after which they led by eight points. While Cork came storming back into the game in the second half and looked like they might secure the spoils this was dashed by Richie Hogan’s late point.
Family fortunes shine at tennis championships
The annual City of Galway Championships, which remain one of the most popular in Ireland, produced some sparkling performances from the locals, as well as top performances from Alan McCormack (Sligo) and Rob Johnston (Ballinasloe) who both made the singles and doubles finals.
