Athlone U14s impress at Feile
Athlone U14 footballers travelled to Malin, County Donegal on Thursday last to represent Westmeath in this year’s All-Ireland Feile competition. Having won their first two group games against Malin and Carndonagh (both Donegal) they then accounted for O’Loughlin Gaels (Kilkenny) to emerge from their group. Charlie McMickan bagged an impressive 2-4 in this game to help send his side through to the all-Ireland semi-final against North Longford Gaels.
Flanagan appointed interim Westmeath manager
Pat Flanagan has been appointed interim Westmeath manager following Brendan Hackett’s resignation last weekend. The Clara native will take charge until the end of this year when the position of manager will then be reviewed. The county board were quick to act to fill the void given that we are only weeks away from our opening championship game.
