€250,000 for five community playgrounds in Mayo
Michael Ring T.D., Minister for Rural and Community Development, today announced funding of €250,000 for five community playgrounds and multi-use games areas (MUGAs) in Mayo under the CLÁR Programme 2018.
Government decision due on 235 houses in Mayo without group water schemes – Mulherin
Fine Gael TD for Mayo, Michelle Mulherin has confirmed that an announcement will be made in the coming weeks regarding 235 rural homes in Mayo which are without group water schemes. The residents of these homes have found themselves ineligible for funding for water infrastructure as a result of a change in funding guidelines and have been without a regular water supply for several years. This week Deputy Mulherin met with the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Brendan Howlin after having raised the issue again most recently in Dail Eireann last week with the Minister for Rural Affairs, Ann Phelan.

Fine Gael TD for Mayo, John O’Mahony, has dismissed criticism by Roscommon Sinn Fein councillor, Michael Mulligan, of his role in the removal of local bus services to Carracastle. Cllr Mulligan incorrectly stated at a public protest that Deputy O’Mahony could have acted to prevent changes to bus services to Carracastle.
Carracastle Lass Festival continues to be a huge success
After 21 years of Carracastle Lass festivals in east Mayo, 2012 proved to be another excellent evening of entertainment on Saturday August 12. Entry from local businesses of a ‘Lass’ saw some excellent, talented and lovely young women enter the competition where they chatted with Tommy Marren, MWR, and performed a party piece on stage after some intensive interviews with this year’s judges.

This year the 16 days of action opposing violence against women will run from November 25 to December 10 and to highlight this Cosgallen CDP are running an event called In Her Shoes. This involves having a shoe display on a shop window with each pair of shoes representing one woman who has been murdered in Ireland since 1996 as a result of domestic violence. To facilitate this event Cosgallen would be grateful if local people would drop old unwanted ladies’ shoes into their office or into O’Connell’s Pharmacy, Main Street, Swinford.
