Councils prepare for arrival of storm

As per Met Éireann’s latest storm advice, the effects of Storm Barra will begin to be felt across Ireland from Tuesday morning, continuing all the way into Wednesday morning. The main impacts will include strong winds, falling trees and potential flooding. High tide in Galway Bay will be at 6.45am Tuesday.

LATEST UPDATE FROM GALWAY CITY COUNCIL RE STORM LORENZO - ISSUED 1.30 THURSDAY

The Joint City and County Co-ordination Group met this morning to discuss the latest precautionary measures to be implemented in advance of the arrival of Storm Lorenzo. Present at the meeting were members of Roads Department, Environment Department and other key staff from both Galway City Council and Galway County Council. Also present were members of the fire service, the Civil Defence and the HSE Ambulance Service. Topics covered at the meeting included an update on the current progress of Storm Lorenzo, as well as operations in relation to sandbags, car park closures and road closures.

Local business leaders raise more than €155k for Cope Galway’s homeless services

The annual COPE Galway Business Leader’s Sleepout has raised over €155,000 for COPE Galway’s Homeless Services. Twenty-eight Galway business leaders came together to raise these funds by sleeping out on Shop Street for 12 hours on December 1.

COPE Galway have confirmed that that their business Sleep Out held in the city last December has raised over €140,000.

COPE Galway, a local charity providing social services in the city and county, has launched the annual COPE Galway Sleep Out where 25 of Galway’s business and community leaders will spend 12 hours on the streets of Galway to raise funds and awareness for local homelessness services.
