Murray wins Sea2Summit

Over 1,000 athletes took up the challenge of the Westport Sea2Summit last Saturday. The Westport based competition has become on of the top adventure racing events in the country and Westport’s Anthony Murray was the first person home over the finishing line. Anthony finished in a time of 3:00.39 over the tough 56.5km course, which took in road running, cycling, a run up Croagh Patrick, sea dash and an obstacle course before finishing with a tough run to the finish line at The Mall in the town. Murray, who won the sprint competition last year, can now add the title of supreme champion for 2011.

Doherty wins Harlequin Adventure Duathlon

Con Doherty from Westport put older and far more experienced athletes to the sword at the Harlequin Duathlon. Sixteen-year-old Con showed his running prowess when he obliterated the field with a blistering run up to the Booster station at Glenisland some 1,450 feet above sea level.

Exciting finale to Mayo AC 2010 League

It began with the Carramore 10k in May and will reach its exciting conclusion with the Westport 5k on Sunday December 12 it is the Mayo AC, C&C Cellular league which once again proved an outstanding success this year. This is the 12th year that this popular race series has been held and the fifth time to be supported by the C&C Cellular Group. Over the years many runners have been discovered through the league races with many going on to achieve national success since. While some of the league prizewinners are already known there is still a lot of running to be done in Westport before the prizes are paid out at the post race presentation in Hotel Westport.

Colm Staunton wins Sea2Summit, finishing in just over three hours

Under challenging November weather conditions the Westport Sea2Summit pushed the country’s leading adventure runners through their limits for the top sporting challenge. Taking in an intense 56.5km over a series of road running, mountain cycling, and running up the challenging terrain of Croagh Patrick with the backdrop of Clew Bay, the summit included a sea dash in Clew Bay and intricate obstacle challenge before finishing in the Fairgreen Westport

Westport 5k fun run and walk this weekend

This Sunday, August 22, Westport will host a 5k fun run and walk around the historic tourist town. The event is open to absolutely everyone of all abilities and will take place through the grounds of Westport House. The event starts at 4.30pm sharp at the North Mall, with registration taking place from 3.30pm in the same location. The course has been accurately measured, and is the ideal distance for families, walkers, Fit4Life members, and club runners. As part of the Westport Get Out There Adventure Festival, the Westport community, and Mayo Sports Partnership have come together to promote an Active Westport for all.
