TWO SINGER-songwriters, one Canadian and one Irish, both of whom have worked with Steve Earle, will be in The Cellar Bar to play a free gig on Wednesday March 23.

We came in as “freshers” just when the Celtic Tiger was unleashing its final booming roar, Rag Week and campus life were electric and Galway was alive. 

The 40th Westport Arts Festival kicks off next Wednesday, September 30, and this year’s festival features an eclectic mix of events for all ages across all art forms. The literary programme for this year’s festival includes the award-winning writer, John Banville, whose novel, The Sea, won the Man Booker Prize. There will also be readings from Donal Ryan, Martin Dyar, Geraldine Mills, and Orfhlaith Foyle. Dr Eimear O’Connor, art historian and author and curator, will give a presentation on Seán Keating and the Art of the Rebellion. The winners of the festival’s Poetry Competition will be announced at a special prize-giving evening of poetry and music in The Creel, featuring writer and singer-songwriter, Orlagh de Bhaldraithe.

NOT CONTENT with being the most exciting singer-songwriting talent to emerge in the city for many years, Steven Sharpe is turning his skills to that of host and MC of a new monthly music night in the Róísín Dubh.

GALWAY HAS become a regular point of pilgrimage for Alabama 3 who make a welcome return to the city to play an 'acoustic and unplugged' show at The Loft @ Seven, Bridge Street, on Friday October 2 at 10pm.

DON'T YOU Know Who I Am? the acclaimed rock‘n’roll short film, written and produced by award-winning Galway author Olaf Tyaransen, will be screened at Electric Picnic this Saturday.
