St. Joseph's Special School in Galway recently celebrated its 60th anniversary with a heart-warming event that brought together past and present students, staff, families, and neighbours. The festivities were made even more special, thanks to Tom Kenny’s wonderful overview of the school's history in the Galway Advertiser prior to the event. As guests arrived, they were greeted by two stilt walkers at the brightly decorated entrance and welcomed by staff, board of management members, and the school’s principal, Sarah McGinley.

Sinéad Reidy from Athlone was among eight NUI Galway students and a special group of inspirational young people presented with the Gaisce Gold Award by President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins recently for their civic engagement and personal development.

Ability West has launched its 60th anniversary celebrations with a series of events across the communities it serves in Galway city and county, with more events planned over the summer.

Galway city was at its best this week when it celebrated the selfless in our society - the volunteers who engage with communities, groups, and individuals, not just giving time, but also themselves to help others.

The annual 5 mile Menlo walk in aid of Ability West is celebrating ten years and the community walk is looking to raise a bumper €10,000 to mark the occasion. The walk will take place on Sunday 12th February. The walk will start at 12 noon from Scoil Bhride Menlo, Galway City.
