Mayo Ideas Lab received a national award at the recent European Enterprise Promotion Awards 2017 during SME Enterprise Week in Tallinn, Estonia. The European Enterprise Promotion Awards (EEPA) is an initiative by the European Commission aimed at recognising and rewarding exceptional examples of support and promotion of entrepreneurship across Europe. Companies from all EU countries, as well as Iceland, Serbia, and Turkey can take part in the competition, with some 2,800 projects getting involved since the awards were established in 2006.

More than 50 students of the National Learning Network in Castlebar have been recognised for their impressive endeavours and commitment to their studies throughout their time in NLN Castlebar.
Students who attend the NLN, which is a division of the Rehab Group, received their certificates at an event in Breaffy House in recognition of their achievements on training programmes which aim to develop the students’ personal, social, educational, and vocational skills, as well as aiming to increase their levels of independence and community integration.

Mayo County Council’s budget meeting was adjourned for a week this morning to allow for the councillors more time to consider the draft budget put before them. Fianna Fail whip - Cllr Damien Ryan proposed the adjournment of the meeting for a week, which was supported by all the other groupings in the chamber. Cllr Ryan proposed that following the initial introductary presentations by the council chief executive, Peter Hynes and the director of finance, Peter Duggan the meeting would adjourn for seven days.

According to the latest figures from last year's census, over 60 per cent of third level graduates in Mayo were female. The latest release of findings from the Census covered education, skills and the Irish language education and skill. Among those aged 15 and over and who had completed their education, the average age of completion was 19.4 years, an increase of 0.8 years on 2011. The average completion age at national level was 19.9 years.
