Fergal Costello, a former captain of the Mayo and Ballinrobe senior football teams, is to launch Ballinrobe GAA club’s Coaching Plan (2015 to 2020) this evening, Friday, November 28.

All club members, young and old, and GAA supporters are invited to the launch in St Joseph’s Primary School, Ballinrobe, at 8pm. “The young members can come out for the launch, see our plans for the future of their club, and still be at home for the Toy Show at 9.30pm,” noted club chairman Alan Flannery.

Macra public speaking finals

Mayo Macra is hosting the Macra na Feirme Public Speaking and Impromptu Public Speaking national finals on Saturday December 6 in the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris, at 8pm. All are welcome to attend. Admission is €5 for spectators.

Birdwatch Mayo

BirdWatch Mayo, in conjunction with the Mayo Naturalist Field Club, is hosting a talk on the birds of Killala this Saturday November 29. The talk will take place at the Joe Keane Creative Centre, which is located opposite the entrance to the Round Tower, starting at 11am, and is followed by an outing to Killala Harbour and Ross Strand to view the birds of the area. The event will be for about four hours, participants are advised to wear suitable clothing and bring a flask and snack. The event is free of charge. A two day Christmas Market will take place this weekend, Saturday November 29 and Sunday November 30, in the Amenity Centre at St Brendan’s Unit in Mulranny. The markets will take place on both days from 12 noon to 4pm. Go along for a great few days at the market, where more than 25 fabulous stalls will be selling their wares.

Davitts Winter 5k series

Would you like to walk, walk/jog, jog or run? Over the next three Sundays November 30, December 7, and December 14, there will be a 5k walk/run starting in Irishtown village at 10am. This event is suited to everyone of all fitness levels. Whether you just want to stroll or sprint this event is for you. The cost of the three events is just €15 and all money goes towards the Davitts GAA Club Building Fund. The 5k series is limited to 150 participants so booking in advance is highly recommended. School musical in Swinford

Preparation for Advent

It will be a day of reflection, prayer, and sharing, on the messages of Advent, with some of the scriptural women and men we encounter in the Liturgy of Advent. Ecumenical service for those bereaved through suicide

This service will take place, this evening, Friday, at 7.30pm in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar. This is an opportunity for members of the community to support those families who have been through suicide. It is also a time for families to remember their loved ones and commemorate their lives. There will be light refreshments following the service.

A massive Christmas craft fair and cake sale will take place on Sunday November 30 from 10am to 4pm in the Social Services Centre, Castle Street Car Park, Castlebar, to raise funds for Meals on Wheels. Santa will meet children from 2pm to 4pm.
