Claremorris musical society to stage Annie

There is great excitement in Claremorris and its surrounding areas as Claremorris Musical Society put the final finishes to their forthcoming production of Annie. Annie will be the third annual production for Claremorris Musical Society. Set up in 2006, the society is growing ever since and is proving very successful in Claremorris and surrounding areas. On Friday January 30, the curtain will go up for the opening night of Annie and this well loved family musical will run over the weekend in The Town Hall, Claremorris.

Annie is a popular and well known musical which tells the tale of the little orphan Annie and her journey from the clutches of the mean and nasty Miss Hannigan in the New York municipal orphanage to the loving and warm home of Mr Warbucks, where every effort is made to trace Annie’s real parents. However, tricksters Rooster and Lily, along with Miss Hannigan, hatch a plan to upset all plans for Annie.

Cinemobile to visit Crossmolina

Cinemobile, Ireland’s mobile cinema, will be making its first visit to Crossmolina on Monday and Tuesday January 26 and 27 at Fagan’s Car Park. On Tuesday at 11am Cinemobile will be screening The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Pupils from nearby schools are invited to view this timeless story of innocence lost and humanity found by ringing the number below. The famous phrase ‘There’s No Show Like a Joe Show’ is expected to ring out across the west next month when the most acclaimed musical event of the last year, the award-winning Joe Dolan - The Reunion Show, rolls into the Royal Theatre, Castlebar. Romance will most certainly be in the air for Joe’s many fans in the west as the magical state-of-the-art production will be staged at the new entertainment mecca on Valentine’s Night, February 14, as part of a weekend-long musical celebration which also features country and western megastar, Jimmy Buckley.

Crowds and critics were united in their praise for the spectacular Joe Dolan – The Reunion Show after it was first staged in front of 10,000 fans in Killarney last year.

Meridian Theatre Company, the company that brought last year’s sell-out Raccoon and The Exit Wound, makes a welcome return to the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar with a double bill of fresh, vibrant, new theatre on Thursday January 22 at 8pm: a pair of roguish new comedies in the shape of Love, Peace & Robbery and Thailand: What’s Love Got To Do With It?

Liam Heylin’s Love, Peace & Robbery is a new comedy inspired by interviews with a group of men struggling to break the cycle of petty crime and imprisonment. A funny, touching, portrait of the human face of the underworld, his characters are shrewd, witty, survivors of a lifetime of self-abuse, still trying to go straight — sort of. Directed by Brian Desmond, starring Shane Casey, John Desmond, and Aidan O’Hare.

The Gypsy Jazz Quartet celebrates the musical genius of one of the true jazz greats, Django Reinhardt, in a unique multimedia presentation The Django Story at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday January 15 at 8pm. The Django Story is a multimedia performance complete with live music that celebrates the colourful life and music of genius Gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt and his band, from its roots in the clubs of 1930s Paris.
