Ham Sandwich to play Heroes and Villains fancy dress party

Fri, Jan 28, 2011

Have you ever wished that you could save the day and get the boy/girl at the end of the movie? Well then you can live out your wildest dreams and fantasies as Finbar Hoban Presents... Marvel Comics Heroes and Villains fancy dress party next Saturday night February 5 at Bar Ritz (Mulroys Bar) Castlebar. All you have to do is dress as up as your favourite comic book hero or villain. There are loads of prizes to be won for best dressed on the night.

Live music will come from one of Ireland’s most successful bands, Ham Sandwich. Bono from U2 once stated that the band would have to change their name because a name such as Ham Sandwich would never work in the music industry. The band recently said: “We called ourselves Ham Sandwich, not because we like sandwiches, or because of the sexual innuendo, or to get away from the ubiquitous-prefix-followed-by-esoteric-noun formula that most bands follow, but because we couldn’t give a f@£K what our gang is called, the stupider the better. It’s a bit of a blessing I guess, no-one ever forgets the name and it makes us work harder.”

Jethro Tull has just announced that he is to perform main stage at The Royal Theatre on March 20 2011. Early in 1968, a group of young British musicians, born from the ashes of various failed regional bands, gathered together in hunger, destitution, and modest optimism in Luton, north of London. With a common love of blues and an appreciation, among them, of various other music forms, they started to win over a small but enthusiastic audience in the various pubs and clubs of southern England. The breakthrough came when they were offered the Thursday night residency at London’s famous Marquee Club in Wardour Street, Soho.

Castlebar panto was a huge success once again

Fri, Jan 21, 2011

With standing ovations and many of the 3,500 audience returning to see the show, Castlebar Pantomime's version of The Wonderful Story of Mother Goose was easily the most enjoyable in 26 years for both audience and cast. The original script became unrecognisable with the directors doing their best to re-write a shorter version, while Walter Donoghue as Mother Goose did his absolute best to ad lib in as many new lines as possible as the shows progressed.
