Fine Gael TD, Michelle Mulherin, has said that a new survey which shows 90 per cent of business leaders support a Yes vote in the Fiscal Compact Treaty Referendum highlights the importance of a positive result. The survey, carried out by IBEC, is based on the replies of more than 400 CEOs.

The ‘enormous potential of renewable energies to transform the economy of the Border, Midland and Western (BMW) Region’ was highlighted by Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Pat Rabbitte in his address to the BMW Regional Assembly’s annual conference at the TF Royal Theatre, Castlebar, this week, which was attended by 170 delegates. Minister Rabbitte stated that the exploitation of wind and wave resources offered huge opportunities for regional development.

Taoiseach asks Mayo retailers if they are ‘Top of the Shops’

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny has called on retailers to see who is ‘top of the shops’ as he launched the Retail Excellence Ireland Awards 2012 this week.

The awards will be presented to retail stores, companies, websites and individuals who best demonstrate evidence of outstanding practice in retail. Retail Excellence Ireland is the largest retail industry group in Ireland with some 9,500 store members employing more than 110,000 people.

It is inexcusable that, with only two years left of the LEADER Programme, Gaeltacht areas are in the seventh month of waiting for a mechanism to distribute the funding, according to Sinn Féin councillor Rose Conway-Walsh. Cllr Conway-Walsh said the reply on the matter from Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Phil Hogan was totally inaequate.

Money skills workplace programme to target financial worries

A new National Consumer Agency (NCA) money skills for life programme providing free independent personal finance education to employees in their workplace was launched this week by Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton.

The programme consists of accredited volunteer financial experts delivering a one-hour presentation to employees in workplaces across the country on how better to manage their personal finances. Employees are also provided with an easy-to-use financial education guide, containing useful information and tools to help them make informed personal financial decisions. The programme is described as being “suitable for those in employment but who may be trying to manage on less money and possibly have some debts and financial worries about the future.”
