Proud Mayo man Padraic D Walsh from Kiltimagh has come up trumps again for this year's Mayo Day.
In 2015 he managed to help get the world famous Niagara Falls lit up in the county colours for the inaugural Mayo Day, and now he has managed to arrange to have the world famous Peace Bridge in the USA turned green and red to celebrate this year's celebrations.
The Peace Bridge straddles the Niagara River and connects Buffalo, New York, in the USA to Ontario, Canada. The Peace Bridge will be lit in the green and red colours of Mayo on Thursday, May 3, to start the worldwide countdown to Mayo Day on Saturday, May 5. The lighting will begin at dusk and continue through to 4am on Friday, May 4.
The Buffalo based School of Law University lecturer said: "The lighting of the Peace Bridge will help bring an international flavour to Mayo Day, and demonstrate the reaches around the globe that Mayo people have."
Martina Hughes from Mayo.ie said: “Mayo Day has really caught the imagination of the Mayo diaspora around the globe. The countdown to this global party has now started and we look forward to hearing from as many groups and organisations with a connection to Mayo to take on the Mayo spirit and help us turn the world green and red.”
