Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, welcomed the the announcement that €96,000 will be invested in heritage projects in Mayo as part of the Built Heritage Investment Scheme and Structures at Risk Fund for 2018.
The funding will allow for the conservation and repair of protected structures in Mayo. It is expected the schemes will generate significant employment in the conservation and construction industries.
The heritage projects approved funding in Mayo include: €6,428 each for eight different projects under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme at Holy Trinity Church at Westport; Railway Hotel, Westport; Ballinrobe House, Ballinrobe; St Mary's Church, Westport; Turlough Lodge, Turlough; St Catherine's Church, Louisburgh; Church of St Charles the Martyr; and The Old Rectory, Westport.
Under the Structures at Risk Fund, St Catherine's Church, Church Street, Louisburgh will receive €15,000 to strip and re-slate south elevation of church; Milford House, Cloghan's Hill, will receive €22,000 for roof repairs; and Turlough Lodge, Leckneen, Turlough, will get €9,000 for roof repairs.
